2U Mourns Fordham Provost and Friend, Dr. Stephen Freedman

It is with deep sadness that I write to tell you that Dr. Stephen Freedman, provost of Fordham University, died suddenly at his home on Monday, July 2.

Stephen and I first met in September of 2016 and have been friends ever since. From our first encounter, his genuine kindness, intellect, and focus on making others around him comfortable was palpable. I am confident that those who met him at our Symposium in San Diego earlier this year or during his visit to our Cape Town and Hong Kong offices know exactly what I mean.

I’ve always believed that success is driven by strong relationships built on trust, mutual respect, and, most importantly, kindness. Stephen was a powerful and inspiring exemplar of this approach to life and career.

His vision for Fordham and confidence in 2U were always clear. We were fortunate to have him as a partner, and his unwillingness to accept the status quo is something we can all learn from.

I ask that you keep Stephen's family and the entire Fordham community in your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Andrew Hermalyn
