USC Rossier School of Education Welcomes More Than 300 Graduates From Its Online Master’s Programs to Campus for Commencement
Los Angeles - May 15, 2014 - The University of Southern California Rossier School of Education announces a milestone fifth graduation that brings together and celebrates graduates from its residential and online programs. This year more than 300 graduates from USC Rossier Online master’s programs will attend commencement ceremonies in Los Angeles.
While Rossier’s online students have developed strong relationships with faculty and peers through the program’s use of live online classes and a robust interactive learning platform, many will be meeting for the first time in person and view commencement as a way to come together and celebrate their successes. USC Rossier Online graduates represent a diverse and successful group:
- This year’s graduates hail from 36 states and 22 countries
- 20 percent of students are graduating with a concentration in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields.
- Based on a 92 percent response rate, 93 percent of online Master of Arts in Teaching graduates stated that they were employed full- or part- time within nine months of their degree conferral.
- During the Master of Arts in Teaching program students are placed in local classrooms under the mentorship of a guiding teacher; approximately 17 percent of students have been hired by their field based teaching site.
“This year marks the fifth graduation of our online master’s programs and we are thrilled to welcome the more than 300 students who have traveled to campus from around the country and across the world to commemorate this achievement. It truly represents meaningful progress in USC Rossier’s national and global impact, and speaks volumes to the connectedness our online students feel towards the Trojan Family,” says Karen Symms Gallagher, Dean of the USC Rossier School of Education. “Along with the rest of the Rossier faculty and staff, I’m proud to see these graduates celebrate together and know they will make a positive difference in schools all over the world.”
“I now have a network of colleagues spanning the globe. The intensity required to successfully complete the program has bonded us beyond what I thought possible with online classrooms,” says Jae Schock, Master of Arts in Teaching – TESOL graduate.
In 2009, USC Rossier began delivering its academically rigorous graduate teaching programs online to students from around the world. Rossier’s online program features a unique blend of live class sessions, online self-paced coursework and hands-on field-based teaching experiences. USC Rossier Online programs include the Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Arts in Teaching-TESOL, Master of Education in Teacher Leadership and the recently announced Doctorate of Education (EdD) in Organizational Change and Leadership.
